Artwork Services

Artwork Page Image.pngR & K Robinson provide a complete artwork service to ensure that you get the desired print result.  We can accept print ready artwork or if you prefer we can originate the artwork from a supplied sample or from your instructions.

Supplied artwork
We accept print ready artwork by email or on a storage device in PDF or EPS format.  All images need to be embedded and all text should be converted to curves.  Colours should be set to CMYK settings - not RGB and the artwork should be flattened.  Please add 3mm to each edge of the artwork if the design bleeds for trimming purposes.

Origination required
We can originate the artwork for your printed stationery order from your instructions or from a supplied sample.  If supplying a sample, please send a minimum of two copies by post as we forward one copy to our supplier and retain a copy ourselves.  Depending on the product ordered, origination will be done either by our supplier, an independent graphic designer or in house by R & K Robinson and a proof will be supplied to you for approval.

Proofs
A proof is a preview of a print job to check content, positioning and colour separations prior to production.  We will email a PDF proof to you for your approval and a colour laser proof can be supplied to you by post if required.  You will need to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer to view PDF files.  If you do not currently have this installed you can download and install it for free by clicking here.  We will not proceed to print until we have received proof approval from you in writing.

Proof colours
PDF and standard laser proofs are only intended to show the colour separation of a print job and not the exact printed ink colours.  If exact colour checking is critical a wet proof can be supplied to you at an additional cost.  This is a proof printed on the same press and material as the finished job would be.

CMYK
CMYK printing, also known as full colour print or four colour process uses four colours - cyan, magenta, yellow and black.  It is typically used for jobs such as business cards and flyers that are litho printed alongside other full colour jobs significantly reducing set up costs.  Four plates are required and by printing various amounts of each ink one by one, millions of colours can be created.  CMYK print can be seen under a magnifier as various dots in the four ink colours.

Spot colours
Pantone spot colour inks are used when a specific colour match is required that cannot be achieved from four colour process.  Whilst the colour range is not as wide as four colour process, the results are generally more vibrant and include special inks such as metallic and fluorescent.  Spot colour print can be identified under a magnifier as a solid colour without dots unless it is a screen where all the dots will be the same colour.

Spot colours can be printed in addition to CMYK.  They are also used when only one or two colours are required which is usually more economical than printing full colour.  A large number of spot colours do not have a suitable CMYK equivalent which is something that should be considered in order to keep a consistency of colour across a range of stationery.  R & K Robinson can supply you with spot colour solid chips prior to printing for approval of the exact colours to be used.
